U.S. approves new single tablet for HIV treatment
Virus is the cause of AIDS, which has no vaccine or cure.
Medication together in one and four drugs to be taken once a day.
The health surveillance agency of the United States approved on Monday (27) the use of a new drug against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. The drug combines four drugs in a single tablet to be taken once a day for adult patients who are beginning treatment.
The medication is sold under the trade name "Stribild" and is produced by Gilead pharmaceutical. The company already markets two other combinations of drugs against the virus in a single tablet: Complera and Atripla, which combine three drugs each.
In most cases, the HIV treatment consists of a group of drugs that should be taken into various hours of the day: this is called "cocktail against AIDS".
The new drug, like others, is only a treatment for the symptoms of the disease that destroys the body's defense system. Infection with HIV has no cure or vaccine. To prevent infection, you need to use a condom during sex and using needles and syringes when needed.
