Bill Gates invests in machine that extracts drinking water from human feces

The American billionaire Bill Gates has invested in creating a device that turns human waste into drinking water and electricity, which, according to the founder of Microsoft, you can save a lot of lives.

The machine, called Omniprocessor, was designed and built by Janicki Bioenergy, which received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The facility aims to prevent diseases caused by contaminated water.

A pilot plant is ready and running in the Janicki headquarters in Seattle, and should come into operation soon in Senegal. According to the blog "The Gates Notes" by Bill Gates himself, the Omniprocessor can process waste up to 100 000 people and produce about 85,000 liters of drinking water per day, and generate 250 kW of electricity.

In a video posted on the blog (see below, in English), Gates proves the resulting water treatment process and says "is water."

How does it work?
The machine heats the excrement at a temperature of 1,000 degrees Celsius to extract its water, which is subjected to other treatments to become potable.

The dried dung can be burned, producing enough heat to generate electrical energy required for the extraction of water. The surplus can be sold to external users, as well as water.

According to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, diseases caused by poor health kill at least 700,000 children every year.
